3 Keys to a Philadelphia Eagles win versus Dallas in Week 8
By Hunter Doyle
3. Carson Wentz and the Philadelphia Eagles receivers need to attack the Dallas secondary.
It doesn’t get much better for the Dallas defense when looking at the secondary. Trevon Diggs is going to learn and grow from this year but his rookie season has been a major struggle. Anthony Brown and Jourdan Lewis haven’t performed well at cornerback. Dallas will be glad to get Chidobe Awuzie back from injury this week but that doesn’t fix the overall issues.
Xavier Woods is a solid safety but the other spot is a concern. Donovan Wilson has gotten more time recently and has been better than what Darian Thompson put out on the field but that’s not saying much. That secondary hasn’t played together as a group all year long.
Awuzie’s return is could help since he has the only interception for the Dallas defense. They are 31st in the league in that category and 26th in passing touchdowns allowed with 16 on the year. Kyle Allen looked pretty strong against them last week. Don’t get it twisted. Dallas knows what this game means and will bring everything they’ve got left for this game. That doesn’t mean the blown coverages and lack of adjustments won’t continue though.
Travis Fulgham should have a field day. With his catch radius and understanding of route running and defensive coverages, the Cowboys’ cornerbacks could have a frustrating night. Jalen Reagor recovered quickly and will play Sunday night as well which adds another dimension to Philly’s offense. It’s unknown how much he will be involved but it sounds like he is good to go.
Don’t be surprised if John Hightower gets another deep ball or two either. With the issues in coverage for both the secondary and linebackers, there is also the potential for Richard Rodgers to have a big day. Carson Wentz needs to play smart and pick apart this defense leading this Eagles offense down the field with methodical drives.
