3. The Philadelphia Eagles’ aren’t utilizing Wentz’s strengths often enough.

If fans took a look around the league and analyzed a few other starting quarterbacks, what they’d find is every NFL franchise falls into two categories, the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots.’ When you think of solid quarterback play, it’s easy to bring up all-stars like Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs or legends like the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger.

Though Mahomes and ‘Big Ben’ are almost on opposite ends of the spectrum from an age standpoint, both also have a lot in common. Their offenses are built around their strengths. That isn’t what’s happening in Philadelphia.

It’s no secret that Wentz’s best throws come when he’s out of the pocket and tossing one around 15 yards downfield. As a matter of fact, he’s one of the league’s most accurate passers in that scenario. The only people who don’t seem to know that is the Eagles’ coaching staff. Over the course of the past two seasons, any play calls that have accentuated Wentz’s strengths have fallen under the category of ‘break glass in case of emergency’.

Fans can count the number of times that the Eagles’ coaches have rolled Wentz out by design on one hand, so can blame be placed on Wentz? Absolutely, it can. Is everything his fault? Not even close.

Press Taylor, Marty Mornhinweg, Rich Scangarello, and above all else, Doug Pederson are all equally to blame along with Wentz for Philly’s struggles on offense. So in an early statement regarding Wentz not being the Eagles’ biggest problemPhilly fans can now start to see (if they have not already) that this coaching staff is not doing themselves, Carson Wentz, or this team any favors.

It is hard for ‘Birds’ fans ever to count this team out. The Eagles have turned their season around in consecutive seasons, and they’ve made it into the playoffs three years in a row. If they’re going to make it a fourth straight season, things are well within their reach, but this Eagles’ franchise needs to take this bye week to reflect, work, and find some motivation.
