Philadelphia Eagles debate table: Is Howie Roseman all in this season?
Okay, Philadelphia Eagles fans, where are you on Howie Roseman?
If you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan, three names roll off the tongue constantly whenever you’re talking about your favorite football team: Doug Pederson, Carson Wentz, and Howie Roseman. The latter has been around the longest as he’s been active during the last three coaching regimes.
Roseman’s career with the Eagles organization began in 2000 as a member of the salary cap staff counsel. That’s rather interesting when you consider the fact that he’s awful at managing the cap. During the Chip Kelly era, he was given an involuntary quarantine as good old Chip stashed him away in the equipment room.
Kelly’s firing and Doug Pederson’s hire is where things seemed to take off. In 2016’s offseason, Roseman traded up twice during the NFL Draft to earn the Eagles the second-overall selection, one they’d use to draft their quarterback of the future, Carson Wentz. One year later, the Eagles won the Super Bowl.
For his efforts in building that Super Bowl roster, Roseman earned the Pro Football Writers Association’s Executive of the Year Award for the 2017 season. Since then, Philly’s regressed in each of the past three seasons, and many believe the vice president and general manager’s inability to construct a satisfactory roster is the reason why.
After eight NFL weeks, the Eagles, despite being in first place boast a subpar record at 3-4-1 record. No moves were made at the deadline. The fans are frustrated. The question is this. Is Howie Roseman all in on the 2020 NFL season? Buckle up, ladies and gentlemen. It’s time to do some homework.
