Philadelphia Eagles: 5 Possible replacements for Jim Schwartz in 2021
So, back to that Philadelphia Eagles moving on from Jim Schwartz idea.
Does anyone want to hear something funny? Once upon a time, there was this contingent of the media and among Philadelphia Eagles fans that believed that it was Jim Schwartz, not Doug Pederson who should have been leading this team heading into the 2016 season. Honestly, as embarrassing as it is to say this, some of them were members of the ITI staff.
Okay, in theory, it kind of made sense at the time. After all, it was Schwartz who had the head-coaching experience. Schwartz, at times, seemed to have more pull around the NovaCare Complex, but looking back on that debate now, those of us who agreed with the theory really screwed that one up.
Jim Schwartz hasn’t regressed as a defensive coordinator. At times, it looks as though he’s fallen off of a cliff. Philly’s terrible defensive showing in Super Bowl LII wasn’t an outlier. It was a sign of things to come. Since 2017, on defense, the Birds look confused more often than not. They are often fooled by the same things over and over. The veterans regress with each passing year. The younger Birds can’t get coached up and on the field. That translates to one constant diatribe. Perhaps Jim Schwartz’s voice has gotten stale.
The question is whether or not Philly has the kahunas to pull the trigger. Executive vice president and general manager Howie Roseman doesn’t seem like he wants to. Doug Pederson doesn’t seem like he’s allowed to, so here we are. Philly’s defensive coordinator operates with impunity despite stinking up the joint, but let’s assume prayers are answered. Let’s assume Schwartz does get the ax. Who can Philly get that’s better?
Let’s attempt to answer that here. Ladies and gentlemen, here are five potential options if Philly does indeed decide to move on from ‘The General’.
