What if the Philadelphia Eagles poached their rival?

Two of the more popular defensive coaching assistants heading into 2020’s offseason were Joe Woods and George Edwards. The former was a miss by these Eagles as he landed with the Cleveland Browns. Things got off to a rocky start for him, but he’s now stabilized a talented young Browns defense. They haven’t given up more than 17 points since October 25th.

The latter is a name that should be familiar to Eagles fans as he’s spent quite a bit of time on the opposite sideline. He was Dallas’ linebackers coach from 1998 to 2001. He was the Washington Football Team’s defensive coordinator in 2003.

As the Minnesota Viking’s defensive coordinator, a role that he served in from 2014 to 2019, there’s a bit of a mixed bag. His guys got obliterated versus the Birds in an NFC Championship Game once. You might remember that one, but they also picked off Carson Wentz once and held the Eagles’ offense in check as the Vikes edged Philly by a 38-20 margin in 2019.

Edwards currently serves as a senior defensive assistant for Dallas, but once the 2021 offseason rolls around, he’ll be mentioned as a potential candidate for anyone looking for a D.C. MIght Philly be interested?
