Philadelphia Eagles star Fletcher Cox keeps climbing that ladder
The big guy keeps climbing the ladder of Philadelphia Eagles legends.
The first thought on Fletcher Cox‘s mind is always helping his Philadelphia Eagles team to a win, but maybe when he wakes up tomorrow, 91 will allow himself the opportunity to pat himself on the back. He’s earned it.
Though not what you would call one of the more vocal leaders in the NFL, the man affectionately referred to as ‘Fletch’ always makes an impression on his teammates by doing what one might call ‘leading by example’. Early in Philly’s final primetime game of 2020, a Week 12 date with the Seattle Seahawks, the big guy registered a sack on Russell Wilson.
It didn’t seem like it was any different than any of his other 52.5 sacks until you look at the history books. You see, with another quarterback takedown on his resume, he sits at 53.5 for his career. That means that he’s sixth all-time in that category in franchise history.
Let’s dig into those Philadelphia Eagles record books.
91 won’t have to wait long before he climbs another rung on that ladder of Eagles greats. He now trails another Birds legend Hugh Douglas who tallied 54.5 quarterback takedowns in 82 career games with 64 starts by one sack.
Cox has had a lot more opportunities, appearing in 136 games with 130 starts. It’s probably safe to say that he’ll play in a few more. The legend that is Fletcher Cox continues its march through the Philadelphia Eagles’ record books and like his teammate, Jason Kelce who made his 100th-consecutive start in Week 12’s game, 91 needs to start being recognized for what he is.
He’s one of Philly’s all-time greats. He’s also a shoo-in for the Eagles Hall of Fame, and he should eventually wind up with his bust carved in Canton, Ohio when his playing days are over. First thing’s first. The Eagles are in the middle of a playoff push, and Fletcher Cox has his mind on other things than individual achievements. He still deserves kudos for this latest one though.
