2 Reasons Philadelphia Eagles get slight passes for ignoring DK Metcalf
1. Were the Philadelphia Eagles scared off by the neck injury and recent history?
Metcalf’s talent was unquestioned. His workout at the NFL Scouting Combine was off the charts, but as 2019’s NFL Draft approached, teams were beginning to back off. You see, D.K. only played in seven games in his final run at Ole Miss. His season ended versus the Arkansas Razorbacks, and though his surgery was a success, many NFL teams were either backing off or taking him off of their draft boards.
Might that be why the Philadelphia Eagles went with JJ Arcega-Whiteside instead? It’s an interesting theory.
2. The Philadelphia Eagles were frightened of injured prospects after taking Sidney Jones.
Here’s another question. Is it possible that the Birds were still dealing with the disappointment of their decision to roll the dice on another prospect that had also sustained a pre-draft injury, Sidney Jones?
Jones’ situation was different as Philly took him in the second round of 2017’s NFL Draft knowing that he wouldn’t be available in Year 1. He had ruptured his Achilles tendon during his Pro Day workout. Philly took him anyway and made the decision to wait on him. Maybe if he could return to form, he’d be a steal. Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out that way. That could have factored into their decision not to take Metcalf in 2019.
