Will the Philadelphia Eagles make another magical run in December?

The Philadelphia Eagles are 11-4 in December the last three seasons.

A 3-7-1 Philadelphia Eagles team heading into the December stretch is not what anybody expected in 2020. This organization houses the second most expensive roster in the NFL, a $100-million franchise quarterback, and a Super Bowl-winning head coach.

On paper, those three key attributes should carry a franchise, at least, to the playoffs. Instead, this Eagles team currently resides in the league’s basement. December has been kind to this franchise the past three seasons though. Philadelphia has garnered a stellar 11-4 record in December the last three seasons combined. That includes a 3-2 showing in 2017 and back-to-back showings of 4-1 in 2018 and 2019. Could a turnaround be on the horizon?

The Philadelphia Eagles will surely need a miracle.

Do you believe in miracles? Because this Eagles team will need one. The walls are closing in on the head coach and general manager. The quarterback is the most scrutinized starter in the league. And this offense, at times, looks like it would have trouble moving the ball on a junior varsity team.

In 2017, Philadelphia entered December with a 10-1 record and the hottest young star in the league, Carson Wentz. Now, just three years later, Wentz sits on the hottest seat among all of the game’s starting quarterbacks. Since that 10-1 start to 2017, Wentz is 18-21-1 as Philly’s quarterback.

In 2019, Wentz led the Eagles on a magical December ride into the playoffs, capturing an NFC East division crown along the way. Philly flew from 5-7 to 9-7. In 2018, with the help of Saint Nick (Foles), the Eagles entered the final month of the year at 5-6 and finished it 9-7 and, possibly, a few plays away from back-to-back NFC Championship Game appearances.

Unfortunately, history doesn’t seem to be repeating itself. This Philadelphia Eagles team is certainly less than stellar. Fans can dream. Players can dream. Coaches can dream, but at the end of the day, the product on the field does anything but lie.

Snap back to reality: the 2020 Philadelphia Eagles are six feet in the grave.

It’s time to turn the page Eagles fans. Although the NFC East is still up for grabs, Philly’s schedule is death row. This might be a month-long funeral for this team in 2020.

A magical December ride is not brewing. Another Wentz turnaround is certainly not on the horizon in 2020. Turn the page to the NFL Draft. Turn the page to 2021. Turn the page to anything but hope in this wasted season.

History repeated itself in 2019 with another 4-1 December performance. It was a magical ride for the city of Philadelphia. However, history is done paying favors, especially this season. A 1-4 December is certainly more likely for this team. Go ahead and add anything but a playoff appearance to your Christmas wish list in 2020 as Philly’s going away party starts next week at Lambeau Field.
