Philadelphia Eagles find their quarterback despite another tough loss
Have the Philadelphia Eagles found their quarterback of the future in Hurts?
Everybody saw it. The Philadelphia Eagles seemed to get a spark when Jalen Hurts entered the game in relief of a struggling Carson Wentz, but it wouldn’t be enough. Philly ultimately fell short by a 30-16 margin. It was another rough first half for the Birds.
There’s been so much controversy surrounding this team, including a month-long debate about who should start at quarterback. After trailing once again by double digits at halftime, head coach Doug Pederson made the gutsy call to bench their $108 million quarterback, Carson Wentz, in favor of the rookie, Jalen Hurts.
The rookie makes the most of his opportunity in the Philadelphia Eagles offense.
The pressure finally got to the head coach, and Doug Pederson pulled Carson Wentz. It wasn’t just for a play here or a play there. Here’s what was interesting though. As soon as he entered the game, the Eagles looked like a completely different football team. Hurts threw a touchdown (on fourth-and-long nonetheless. Jalen Reagor returned a punt for a touchdown, and just like that, a twenty-point lead shrunk to seven points.
Unfortunately, Hurts’ interception on Philly’s final drive would slam the door shut after The Pack scored another touchdown to put this one away. The Eagles have now lost four games in a row, so let’s talk about where the Eagles go from here.
No one has to guess what the discussions about the Philadelphia Eagles will be.
Obviously, a loss is a loss and it’d be almost impossible to find an Eagles fan who is happy with what has transpired this season, but there is a major positive to take from this game. Even though the offense only scored 16 points (they can’t break the 17-point ceiling) and the defense played atrociously, Jalen Hurts definitely seemed to energize the entire team.
The energy he orchestrated, is something that Wentz has seemingly been unable to provide to the team, and for an NFL quarterback, particularly on that plays in a city as passionate as Philadelphia, that can’t happen. Has Philly found Wentz’s replacement? Don’t be surprised when the calls for Hurts grow louder in the days leading up to Week 14’s game.
