Philadelphia Eagles announce more roster moves ahead of Week 15
The Philadelphia Eagles continue to shuffle their roster ahead of Week 15’s game.
Here’s a promise that shouldn’t be difficult to keep. If you’re a Philadelphia Eagles supporter, no one’s going to revoke your fan pass if you’re unable to name every member of the starting lineup on both sides of the ball without looking. It’s been that kind of year. Then again, when is it not that kind of year?
Ever since 2017, major injuries to important guys in key areas has been a part of the process. Philly started to do all that they could to bring some younger guys in during the 2020 offseason, but it’s been more of the same. Physically this team can’t catch a break. Seriously, did they lose both Darius Slay and Rodney McLeod on the same play in Week 14?
Just in case you don’t have a fight card or you’ve been a little busy, here’s a quick update. Hopefully, nobody gets knicked up at practice or anything.
Here’s where the Philadelphia Eagles are as of Wednesday night.
As you know, Slay suffered a head injury in Week 14 and is currently in the NFL’s concussion protocol. On Monday, we learned that Jack Driscoll‘s leg injury might have been serious, and it is (more on that in a second). To compensate, Philly announced the signing of offensive lineman Ross Pierschbacher from Washington’s practice squad. He was a teammate of Jalen Hurts‘ with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
On Tuesday, the Birds announced that Driscoll’s leg injury was, indeed serious and that he’d miss extensive time. According to the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, he suffered a significant MCL sprain. His rookie season, as impressive as it was, is over.
Also, on Wednesday, the Birds announced they were protecting their four allotted practice squad players ahead of Week 15’s game. That includes cornerback Jameson Houston, running back Jordan Howard, linebacker Rashad Smith, and offensive tackle Prince Tega Wanogho.
Thursday was another busy day at the Novacare Complex as Philly announced right lunchtime on the East Coast that they were promoting defensive back Elijah Riley from the practice squad to the active roster and placing safety Rodney McLeod on injured reserve in a subsequent move.
They also added a familiar face, safety Blake Countess, to the practice squad. He was a sixth-round draft choice of the Eagles in 2016 but was released on September 3rd of that year. He also spent some time here in 2019 though he was never promoted to the active roster.
