3. The Philadelphia Eagles need to win the field position battle.

While most fans might expect big points to be put up from one offense or both, this game also has the potential to come down to the field position battle. If one team can get the ball in a favorable spot or force the other to start backed up deep in their own territory, it could change the scope of the game.

Cam Johnston hasn’t been perfect lately but he’s still at the top of the league in punting. He’s tied for tenth with 20 punts landing inside the 20, and he’s seventh in average yards per punt with a 48.2 average. What’s most impressive is his directional kicking and hang time.

The punt coverage hasn’t been as great as usual since Rudy Ford went down with a hamstring injury weeks ago. This week, he’ll be back in the lineup. You can bet he’s going to make some big plays downfield on punts to help this team win the field position battle.

A turnover would also help this Eagles team with field position. Last week, Duke Riley’s interception was huge. It led to a Jake Elliott field goal (something we don’t see much of today). The Eagles ended up winning by three. If this Eagles defense can get Kyler uncomfortable and force him into a couple of bad decisions, they’ll have a real shot.
