Has Dwayne Haskins improved the Philadelphia Eagles playoff hopes?
Philadelphia Eagles fans will be paying attention to Washington in Week 16.
By the time the Philadelphia Eagles take the field in Week 16 to play the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, they were supposed to already know whether or not the door has already been closed on their playoff hopes or not. The NFL offices have flexed the game between the Washington Football Team and Carolina Panthers to 4:05 PM EST, so even though the Birds won’t know their fate, their fans will, no doubt, have an eye on what Washington and Carolina are doing.
You see, for Philly to make the playoffs, Washington must lose their next two games. Upsets were a common theme in Week 15. The New York Jets may have lost out on the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes thanks to their win versus the Los Angeles Rams. The Cincinnati Bengals knocked off the rival Pittsburgh Steelers in the most recent episode of Monday Night Football.
Might another upset be looming in Week 16? That isn’t the biggest question surrounding this game though. The most interesting question is one that we didn’t expect to be asking. Who’s going to be playing quarterback for them when they take the field?
The Philadelphia Eagles may have been thrown an alley-oop from Dwayne Haskins.
If you haven’t heard the news coming out of our nation’s capital, here it is. After Washington’s five-point loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15, Dwayne Haskins was seen partying at a local strip club with no mask on, a direct violation of the NFL’s policy on COVID-19 and player safety. Take a look. These were photos that were lifted from Haskins’ Instagram story before they were made private.
Yes, he’s fully aware of the fact that there’s a pandemic. Yes, he’s already been fined for violating COVID-19 protocols this season. Yes, he was the same guy that wasn’t ready to go back into the game at its conclusion a season ago in Week 12 because he was on the sideline taking selfies.
106.7 The Fan in Washington D.C. confirmed that it is, indeed, Haskins in the photos. And, you wonder why Birds fans are constantly praising Jalen Hurts for his maturity? This is why!
Here’s what Philadelphia Eagles fans can expect now.
It would seem as though Alex Smith would be the logical starter now, but he was held out of Week 15’s game due to a calf injury. At the time of this story being published, he’s still being listed as day-to-day, but that may just be a precaution. Taylor Heinicke is the third quarterback on Washington’s depth chart if neither guy can go.
In terms of Haskins, Washington is ‘very much aware of the posts on social media’, and both they and the league offices are ‘handling the situation internally’ per The Fan’s Chris Russell and a report that popped up on the station’s website on December 22nd. Who knows? maybe Haskins has thrown the Eagles a bone here.
