Can Jalen Hurts lead these Philadelphia Eagles to a playoff berth?
It doesn’t look like Jalen Hurts and the Eagles have any desire to tank.
We’re two games into what is believed by many to be the dawn of the Jalen Hurts era with the Philadelphia Eagles, and you can already spend hours upon hours discussing this team. Some are praying that the team tanks. You know, create their own mini-version of ‘Trust the Process’.
The problem with that is no one trusts vice president and general manager Howie Roseman to find the right guy if Philly did wind up with a top-ten draft choice. There also seems to be no desire to tank with this Eagles team. Are you seeing the effort they’re putting forth? Losing appears to be unacceptable, and that’s exactly the type of effort that Birds fans have been searching for all season.
So, can Jalen Hurts lead the Birds to the playoffs?
The NFL is so obsessed with parity and every team having a chance that it’s hard to believe, despite the fact that the NFC East is picked on constantly, that the league offices have any issue with what’s going on with the the four teams in the NFL’s worst division.
If everyone woke up on Week 17, every team was 9-7 or close to it, and every game mattered on football’s final weekend, the NFL’s decision makers would throw a party. Games still matter in the NFC East regardless of how bad its teams have played, so the offices are happy. It allows for intrigue and a little drama. In other words, fans are still invested and watching.
Two games remain for the Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and Washington Football Team. There’s no margin for error, but despite a 4-9-1 record, and the fact that they’re in the division’s cellar, they’re mathematically still alive for a division title. Here’s what needs to happen.
The Eagles have to win out. They have to beat the Dallas Cowboys in Week 16 and Washington in Week 17. The Cowboys and the Giants both have to lose one of their next two games. Washington needs to lose out which means every Birds fan will be cheering for the Carolina Panthers on December 27th at 1 PM EST.
It’s a tall order, but it isn’t impossible. The question is will everything go in the Eagles’ favor? Keep your fingers crossed. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
