The Philadelphia Eagles finally get their number one wideout.

In our mock draft, Ja’Marr Chase is off the board by the time the Eagles pick. With the seventh pick, the ‘Birds’ still get the number one wideout they need in Devonta Smith. He’s not just an elite route runner like most Alabama wideouts. The 22-year-old catches everything. Rarely will you see a ball hit Smith in the hands that he won’t come down with.

Even if the quarterback’s throw is a little high, the six-foot-one senior can go up and get it in traffic. He gets off press coverage with ease – something that is a nightmare for the Eagles’ current wideouts. Watch him rise on the draft boards even after the combine.

He’s coming off of back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. He’s the top Heisman candidate in 2020 with 98 catches for 1,511 yards and 17 touchdowns. He has even taken on some punt return duties with Jaylen Waddle out of the lineup (eight returns, 199 yards, one touchdown). The biggest concern with Smith is his weight – he only weighs 175 pounds. Fighting through contact and making catches in traffic is going to be more difficult at his size in the NFL. It wouldn’t hurt him to bulk up a bit. Either way, he’s better than what the Eagles have.
