1. The Philadelphia Eagles may have hired the wrong assistant coaches.

The Birds were given an opportunity for a fresh start well before the regular season began. After saying goodbye to several of his assistant coaches, including his offensive coordinator Mike Groh, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson needed everything from a defensive backs coach to someone to lead his wide receivers.

When the dust cleared and the smoke settled, here’s what happened. Rich Scangarello was hired as a Senior Offensive Assistant and eventually, the Birds would reacquire Marty Mornhinweg as a Senior Offensive Consultant. That was back in February. We’ll see another February in a little over a month, and still, no one knows what either of those guys does. We mentioned that they’ve been here for about a year right?

In addition to all of that, Matt Burke was named the Run Game Coordinator and Defensive Line Coach. Dino Vasso became an assistant coordinator on defense. Marquand Manuel was given the title of Defensive Backs Coach, Aaron Moorehead became the Wide Receivers Coach, and Andrew Breiner and T.J. Paganetti became the Pass Game Analyst and Assistant Run Game Coordinator and Assistant Running Backs Coach, respectively. Oh, and Press Taylor had the title of Quarterbacks Coach added to his role as Passing Game Coordinator.

Press Taylor is abhorrent. We won’t even get into how bad Jim Schwartz and Dave Fipp have been. The jury is out on every one of those other hires. There’s also that other coaching hire that never came.
