Philadelphia Eagles 2021, seven-round mock: Birds add to their secondary
By Hunter Doyle
Richard LeCounte could be the next Rodney McLeod for the Philadelphia Eagles.
With Rodney McLeod suffering another serious injury and just one year left on his deal, the Eagles find a potential replacement. Georgia safety Richard LeCounte III could learn under McLeod in his rookie year and then take over the free safety spot in 2021. He’s a highly intelligent and instinctual player and doesn’t get fooled often. Learning an NFL defense is difficult for any prospect but LeCounte has an advantage coming from Kirby Smart’s scheme which is a bit more complex than most.
LeCounte locks all windows and doors in coverage. Quarterbacks don’t test him often because he reacts so quickly. He doesn’t have eight turnovers in his last 11 games by accident. McLeod’s range over the top is a bit limited at times. LeCounte doesn’t have great range either but it might be a bit stronger than McLeod’s. He’s also a good communicator and will set his teammates up for success pre-snap which is something we saw from both Malcolm Jenkins and McLeod.
McLeod will have to give LeCounte some tackling tips. Hopefully, Darius Slay can give him some pointers on his man coverage skills. This Georgia safety is a perfect fit for this Eagles team. If he cleans up those two aspects of his game, he has the potential to be an Eagle for quite a while.
