The Philadelphia Eagles land an interior lineman.

While the performance of the offensive line was ugly for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020, we are more hopeful for their potential in 2021 than most. They have two potential starters at left tackle in Jordan Mailata and Andre Dillard. Isaac Seumalo has shown tremendous growth over the past few years at left guard. This year, Nate Herbig and Jack Driscoll showed flashes of their potential. Brandon Brooks and Lane Johnson could be back next year. Considering their injury histories, that is far from a guarantee but it’s a possibility.

A big part of the offensive line struggles was the fact that they never had the same group out there. Communication is key on stunts and blitzes. Now that they know which backups can play and which shouldn’t return in 2020, they can feel good about their depth. Offensive line coach and run game coordinator Jeff Stoutland deserves a lot of credit for developing players like Mailata, Herbig, and Driscoll this year. If Jason Kelce leaves, we have full confidence in Luke Juriga at center next year.

Since the interior could use some more depth, the Birds will land a developmental lineman with South Carolina guard Sadarius Hutcherson. After Seumalo, Brooks, and Herbig, there aren’t many options. At 320 pounds, Hutcherson has the potential to throw defenders across the field and clear space for Eagles’ running backs.

If the Eagles utilize the screen game more next year and Hutcherson has to step in, he could clear the way for some big touchdowns. As The Draft Network pointed out, he does well blocking in space. Stoutland often does a good job developing his lineman in the screen and run game.
