Philadelphia Eagles 2021, seven-round mock: Birds add to their secondary
By Hunter Doyle
Is this LeGarrette Blount 2.0 for the Philadelphia Eagles?
Sure, we might be a little high on Oklahoma running back Rhamondre Stevenson after his most recent performance. The six-foot and 246-pound bulldozer was giving off LeGarrette Blount vibes versus Florida in the Cotton Bowl. It’s difficult not to get excited. He moves surprisingly well for his size too.
On just 18 carries, Stevenson racked up 186 yards and found the endzone once. He’s a true bulldozer which the Eagles need badly. As long as head coach Doug Pederson is calling the plays, we probably won’t see much of Stevenson. If the Birds bring in someone else to be the primary play-caller, Stevenson could be a key role player.
Miles Sanders and Stevenson could be a dynamic duo. Sanders should still get the bulk of the carries. He needs to be fed the ball more often. Stevenson could certainly be a short-yardage back for Philly and just help move the ball downfield by lowering his shoulder and falling forward. Unfortunately, he was suspended for the first five games of the 2020 season due to a failed drug test in 2019.
After his return from suspension, Oklahoma received a big boost. In 2020, he finished with 665 yards on 101 carries (6.6 yards per rush) and seven touchdowns in just six games. While receiving isn’t one of his biggest strengths, he improved that aspect of his game with 18 catches for 211 yards. While he did have a strong offensive line to run behind, that shouldn’t discredit what he can do with the ball in his hands. This is exactly the type of guy you take in Round 7. The Eagles won’t regret it if they do.
