This would absolutely fix the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive issues.

Sometimes, there comes a point when a man must accept, with all sincerity, what he is, and it appears that, after a stint as head coach of one of the teams that Philadelphia Eagles fans hate the most, Wade Phillips finally learned that lesson.

In three stints as an NFL head coach (that number swells to six if you include three gigs as the ‘interim’ guy), Wade Phillips has amassed a head coaching record of 83-69 if you throw in a 1-5 postseason record, and get this. He also served as the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive coordinator from 1986 to 1988. See? He isn’t just the former head coach of the hated Dallas Cowboys! How’s that for a trivia question at your next football party?

Phillips, despite a winning percentage that’s just under 55 percent, isn’t a head coach. Something just always seemed to be missing. He’s one heck of a defensive coordinator though. He’s 73. He’d probably switch the Eagles to a 3-4 defensive front, but that’s worked here before (and it may help Javon Hargrave).

The point is this. Everyone’s may not agree with hiring Phillips, but if you’re putting together a list of possible replacements for Schwartz and your list doesn’t include Phillips, the list needs to be thrown out entirely.
