Philadelphia Eagles prospect profile: Antwan Davis
The Philadelphia Eagles need to upgrade the wideout position (obviously).
The wideout position has been a sore subject for Philadelphia Eagles fans and the Philly media for quite some time now. Even though they’ve selected four receivers in the last two NFL Drafts, the need to upgrade the talent seems to be all you hear about each and every season. Despite the leadership’s attempts to address the position, the wideout room, as a whole, has been a big disappointment.
The Eagles have long needed to find the right mix, and our staff at ITI found an under-the-radar option that could develop into a solid option that can help turn the fortunes of this position group. With that being said, welcome Ball State receiver Antwan Davis, the sure-handed, quick route-runner from Saint John, Indianapolis to the conversation.
What Antwan Davis can do for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Watching the film on Davis, he reminds you of Philadelphia Eagles fan-favorite Jason Avant at times, with his strong hands and his ability to always find open areas in the secondary. At a shade under six feet and 205 pounds, Davis is built like a solid slot receiver but has the versatility to play on the outside and be just as effective. He can run a complete route tree and has the speed to separate from defenders.
We understand the fans screaming for the Philadelphia Eagles to select a big-name prospect in the first round of this year’s NFL Draft. Understandstandble but adding a second option would be the right move as the Eagles are in need of a few upgrades. Rookie Jalen Reagor has shown flashes and could develop into a good player. Greg Ward has been solid, but everyone else has been a head-scratcher. The Birds need more.
A quick quote from the Ball State product.
I had the opportunity to speak briefly with Davis and ask him what he feels he can bring to an NFL team. Here is what he had to say:
"I think for me it is all about work. You work your butt off to be the best version of yourself you can be. I am a guy that will do all it takes to be the best wideout in the league and not get comfortable with that. I understand the talk about all the big-name guys in this year’s Draft, but I know I can be just as good. I know I have the tools and skill set that can be a real success in the NFL. I get that I am an underrated player to most people and I am not a huge name just yet, but I know I can do what it takes. I am a hard worker and a guy that can play inside and out, I catch anything and everything near me and I can block. I just need a real chance to prove myself."
Again, it is no secret that the Philadelphia Eagles need to upgrade the wideout position and have needed to do so for quite some time. Adding a player like Antwan Davis would give the Eagles a young talented prospect.
He’s someone that has the tools and skillset to develop into a real difference-maker, one with great hands. He has the stomach to play across the middle. He has the football IQ coaches covet. While Davis isn’t a household name yet, he could be one of the biggest steals in the 2021 NFL Draft. Philly should definitely pay attention.
