This Philadelphia Eagles stars’ body may not hold up much longer.

When he’s healthy, Brandon Brooks might be the best right guard in all of the NFL. The key phrase in that thought is ‘when he’s healthy’. Since January 13th of 2019, the day Nick Foles’ final pass as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles sailed through the hands of Alshon Jeffery and into the waiting arms of Marshon Lattimore, Brooks’ season has ended before the Birds were done playing.

There was that Divisional Game that we were just referencing, a 20-14 loss to the Saints. Brooks ruptured his Achilles in that one but worked his way back onto the field like Superman for the 2019 season, but last year ended with a dislocated shoulder during the season finale. 2020 was supposed to be different. It wasn’t.

On June 15th of last year, Brooks announced that he had torn his Achilles tendon (again) and would miss 2020’s campaign season. He was placed on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list at the beginning of training camp and wound up on the PUP/reserve list on September 5th, where he remains at the time of this story being published.

Brooks earned another Pro Bowl nod in 2019, his third, and that same season, he inked a four-year, $54.2 million contract extension that keeps him with Philly through the 2024 season. That’s a ton of coin for someone that isn’t playing.

The thought of moving on from Brooks sounds ridiculous in theory, and he’ll be in an Eagles jersey if he’s able to go (at least we all think so), but as time goes on and the injuries mount, it seems less and less likely that the Birds are getting four more years out of 79.
