Why is Nick Sirianni’s Philadelphia Eagles presser taking so long?

Does anyone remember those Where’s Wally puzzle books? If you’re an eighties baby or have children that are older, you may. There were times that you just breezed through each puzzle with no issue. At other times, you couldn’t find Wally no matter what you did. Ladies and gentlemen, if you’re sitting there wondering what on Planet Earth this has to do with the Philadelphia Eagles, the answer is quite simple actually.

Philly’s new head coach, Nick Sirianni, was officially introduced on Sunday, January 24th. He arrived in the City of Brotherly Love a day later. At the time of this story being published, the East Coast is preparing for lunchtime on January 27th, and there’s been no introductory press conference.

Heck, there has even been the announcement of when an introductory press conference may occur. The question is why that’s the case.

A strange Philadelphia Eagles offseason continues.

There’s one thing that’s been floating over the Eagles’ decision to hire Sirianni over other candidates like Josh McDaniels, Duce Staley, or Eric Bieniemy. The latter of whom wasn’t even granted an interview.

There are questions about whether or not Sirianni was hired because they can control him. Sure, he’s been allowed to hire his staff, but there’s still that vibe that, when it comes down to it, most of the on-field decisions will still be made by Eagles Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie and the franchise’s vice president and general manager Howie Roseman.

Could they be delaying Sirianni’s presser because they’re prepping him, I.e. ‘telling him what to say’? That’s a question that’s been asked around a lot of Eagles rumor mills.

Here at ITI, we’re split on whether or not that has something to do with it, but at the same time, none of us believe that’s the lone or sole reason we haven’t heard anything. Maybe they’re trying to speak with Carson Wentz so they’ll know what they need to say about him, seeing as how most of the questions will surround 11’s relationship with the team.

Maybe they were just waiting on Sirianni to build his staff, and even in that, there have been questions. There are questions about his offensive coordinator, Shane Steichen. There are questions about his defensive coordinator, Jonathan Gannon.

That’s a feasible argument. Whatever the case, time continues to pass, and we still don’t know who Sirianni is or what his philosophy is. Heck, some Philadelphia Eagles fans don’t even know what his voice sounds like, but patiently we all wait. At some point, there will be an introductory press conference, and a lot will get ironed out then (we hope). Stay tuned. You can best believe that Eagles Nation is doing the same thing.
