The only subject that can rival the Philadelphia Eagles quandary at the quarterback position is the needs of the secondary. It’s been arguably one of the largest holes on the roster over the last few years. Gone are the days of the terrifying Jim Johnson defenses built with great pass rushers, a tone-setting safety in Brian Dawkins, and great corners on the outside.

The Philadelphia Eagles are once again in a conundrum and trying to identify the perfect prospect to team with Darius Slay. They also need to find versatile defensive backs that can plug-and-play across the backend of the defense. With that being said let us introduce you to former Texas Chrisitan University (TCU) defensive back Ranthony Texada, the undersized five-foot-ten, 190-pound prospect with the versatile skill set to hep across the board.

Here is someone Philadelphia Eagles fans should keep an eye on.

What the former Washington Football Team DB lacks in size, he more than makes up for in great ball skills, a quick-twitch while covering in traffic, and a tremendous football IQ. He’s capable of playing on an island in man or zone coverage and taking away a team’s top weapon.

What might be the most impressive part of Texada’s game is his willingness to play in the dirt, meaning he’s willing to lower his shoulder and take on a ball carrier. He has a nose for the ball and always seems to be in the right place at the right time. He never seems to chase the ‘rat poison’. It’s hard to fool him with different looks as he seems to understand what the offense is trying to do.

Here is an interesting take that could interest Philadelphia Eagles fans.

We at ITI spoke briefly with a scouting source to ask about his take on the former TCU Horned Frog. While he did not want us to use his name, he did have this to say:

"This kid has a skill set that you covet in the NFL and for some reason, he isn’t on a roster right now. I don’t really have an answer for that. He reminds me a lot of his younger brother (Raleigh Texada) the kid at Baylor. He is a really good corner, and I think Ranthony plays a lot like him. He isn’t a complete prospect but no one really is. I think he adds value to a team with his versatility to be used in different ways. I think right now, in Philadelphia, they need some upgrades not at the corner spot and he would be a great move. I think if he can get a real shot he will surprise some folks. I think he could really help a defense."

The Philadelphia Eagles have a ton of holes especially at the backend of their defense, and adding a player like Ranthony Texada could go a long way in fixing that.

With his versatile play, the Eagles could use Texada in a multitude of ways including as a returner on special teams. All you need to do is put on the film and watch the kid play. You will see the potential in his versatile playing style. The Philadelphia Eagles need to find someone to match with Darius Slay, and Texada could be the free-agent corner to fill that need.
