The other Philadelphia Eagles quarterback had a few things to say recently.
Well, as you might expect, we were all unable to get through an entire week without discussing the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback situation. As most of the world makes Super Bowl plans, Birds fans are talking about how they believe Howie Roseman will trim some of that huge cap number and what they do or don’t like about the last mock draft they read.
Then, Jalen Hurts found his way onto CBS Sports HQ and inadvertently began a mini-media tour. Well, you can’t complain too much. Everyone’s been waiting with bated breath in hopes that Carson Wentz might say something. Instead, the guy that many thought would compete with him for a starting role in 2021 is the one that’s actually doing the talking.
Chris Hassel, Danny Kanell, and Pete Prisco of CBS Sports HQ spoke with Mr. Hurts while in Tampa, and here’s some of what was said when Philly’s now-second-year signal-caller was asked about who the starter would be in 2021 on opening day.
"That’s a great question. I’m putting the work in on my end. I’m trying to put in relationships with my guys. I’m just trying to take the next step. Regardless of what’s what, I’m challenging myself to be the best quarterback I can be… Learn from my mistakes as a team, learn from my mistakes last year. Those four games I got the opportunity to get my feet wet and (I can) take off next year."
On the subject of what it’s going to take to win the starting gig over Carson Wentz (if he’s still around) and if he notices the differences between quarterback controversies at the collegiate and professional level, Hurts had this to say.
"‘I’m) simply just leveling up on every part of my game, building relationships with the coaches we have, seeing it how they see it. That’s always pivotal. Creating an identity, and how they want to go about it. That’s a big point for me and that will help me as well as a player… (Football has) always been a business, in college and the pros. I’ve always understood that. One thing I’ve always done, I’ve always tried to keep the right mentality. The main thing I can control is my work ethic, my effort, where my head’s at (and) the relationships I’ve had with those around me, building them as a man and building them as a player. I’ve always been rooted in my faith."
Here are three immediate reactions to all of this if you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan.
