Philadelphia Eagles draft watch: Ranking 5 best QBs not named Lawrence
Has anyone actually pictured Kyle Trask in a Philadelphia Eagles jersey? No?
The questions began immediately. Once we threw Lawrence out and started stacking everyone else, guys like Wake Forest’s Jamie Newman, Arkansas’ Felipe Franks, Northwestern’s Peyton Ramsey, and Sam Ehlinger of Texas were all good enough to make the top ten in our opinion, but all were left out of the top five.
That meant the fifth spot came down to Kyle Trask of the Florida Gators and Kellen Mond of the Texas A&M Aggies. Trask won out for one reason. While Mond improved across the board in every area that we evaluate in terms of what makes a signal-caller NFL-ready, it’s hard to get what he did versus Vanderbilt out of your mind.
Sure, Mond had that amazing come-from-behind victory versus Trask’s Gators, but our staff kept giving him late-third to fourth-round grades.
Mond is coachable, as is Trask, but Trask seems to be slightly more NFL-ready right now from a mechanics standpoint. He also wowed us with impressive wins over Ole Miss and Georgia (he threw for almost 500 yards versus the Bulldogs). Also, while Mond struggled versus Alabama, Trask threw for almost 400 yards and three touches. He also ran for two more
Trask edges Kellen Mond out slightly for the fifth spot on this list, but there isn’t a ton of distance between them. call them 5a and 5b.
