How should Philadelphia Eagles fans remember Carson Wentz?

As fans and members of the media, we’ve all seen Carson Wentz‘s name drug through the valley mud and glorified atop snow-capped mountains, but how should Philadelphia Eagles fans remember the now-estranged quarterback? Wentz is no longer a member of the Eagles organization, but in just five short years he handed Eagles fans everywhere a plethora of incredible memories.

In Carson Wentz’s second season in the NFL, he paved the way toward the franchise’s first Vince Lombardi Trophy while putting up MVP-caliber numbers and ESPN Top-10 highlights.

Of course, we all know Wentz’s 2017 campaign was cut short due to an ACL tear, but the 13-game run he took Eagle fans on to start that legendary season was nothing short of spectacular. No season since and no season before was more iconic than that of 2017’s.

Wentz made plays the NFL had not seen before. He escaped pockets like Harry Houdini, he tossed jaw-dropping bombs like a 13-year-old playing Grand Theft Auto, and frankly, made life in Philadelphia that much more enjoyable.

Wentz’s run in Philly was not lengthened like the likes of Donovan McNabb, Ron Jaworski, or Randall Cunningham, but he hoisted the trophy those three failed to acquire. Nick Foles put the icing on that season’s cake, but Wentz did most of the baking.

No one could have predicted the ugly divorce that the Eagles front office engendered, but this is the reality of the business and Wentz is now a member of the Indianapolis Colts.

Carson Wentz is much more than an athlete.

Wentz’s radio silence since his benching in Green Bay on December 6th has tainted his image in the short term, but Wentz’s impact off the field in his five years in Philadelphia should speak volumes to the man he is.

Wentz founded his AO1 Foundation in 2017. Within the foundation, he has partnered with churches and communities to spearhead the birth of Thy Kingdom Crumb, a food truck that distributes free food to those in need,

The Outdoor Ministry, a children’s camp dedicated to providing children with medical hardships a chance at outdoor fun, and the Haiti Sports Complex, a multipurpose sporting facility furnished with sports courts, turf fields, locker rooms, bathrooms, and showers in the impoverished country of Haiti.

Carson Wentz should forever be heralded in Philadelphia.

Twenty years from now, Carson Wentz won’t be mentioned among Philadelphia’s greatest athletes, nor should he be in the Eagles Hall of Fame. Still, he should forever be heralded as the quarterback who engineered the most magical season in franchise history.

He will be remembered by fans as a player with the highest of highs and very disappointing lows. He wasn’t perfect. He wasn’t the long-term answer at quarterback, but without his heroics, this franchise might not bolster that beautiful Super Bowl banner. The page has turned. Farewell #11.
