54. . . . Defensive tackle. 3. player

Fletcher Cox turns 31 years old during the next Philadelphia Eagles season.

Think about how long ago the Super Bowl victory was. Wasn’t Caitlin Jenner still being featured on Wheaties boxes? In 2017, the defensive line was also a driving force behind the eventual championship parade. Philly had the number-one-rated pass rush in the NFL that season, and as most of you know, an elite pass rush/stout rushing defense makes a shaky secondary look much better than they are.

When things are done in reverse, the results aren’t usually the same.

The 2017 season saw the secondary have its best season of the Doug Pederson era, but they were aided by the league’s best defensive line. If Howie Roseman doesn’t deserve credit for anything else, he deserves credit for getting things right that season. His dedication to building the defensive line contributed to a Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Ahead of 2021’s campaign, the Eagles decision-makers need to stick to their guns if they want to contend anytime soon. 31-year-old Fletcher Cox and Javon Hargrave are the only two defensive tackles worth mentioning at this point, and the draft and free-agency periods will be key in bringing in talent to assist them.

Seriously, this team needs tryouts, Vince Papale, anything! Honestly, Philadelphia should look to spend high draft capital at this position for the next couple of seasons.
