Philadelphia Eagles, NFL Draft watch: Mocking all 32 picks in Round 1
By Smit Bajaj
The Philadelphia Eagles land themselves a stud at number six.
5. Cincinnati Bengals: OT Rashawn Slater, Northwestern
The Bengals will likely be looking for an offensive lineman or a wide receiver at the fifth slot. Given the amount of wide receiver depth in this draft, they don’t need to target a pass catcher in the first round. That opens up the door for Rashawn Slater. He’s a versatile blocker with a sound technique that can protect Joe Burrow for years to come.
6. Philadelphia Eagles: WR DeVonta Smith, Alabama
The 2020 Heisman Trophy winner can give the Philadelphia Eagles exactly what they need: an offensive spark. With Carson Wentz out of the picture, it’s time for the team to build around Jalen Hurts and see what he can do. DeVonta Smith is a crafty receiver who treats the wide receiver position like an art form.
He’s not the biggest or the fastest, but Smith knows how to create separation, catch any type of pass, and make splash plays after the catch. He’d be the perfect complement to Jalen Reagor and could finally give the Birds their first 1,000-yard wide receiver since Jeremy Maclin in 2014.
7. Detroit Lions: LB Micah Parsons, Penn State
So far in this NFL mock draft, only offensive players have been selected. Finally, at pick number seven, the Lions take someone who is widely considered to be the best defensive player in the draft. Micah Parsons represents the new prototype of linebackers with his quickness, speed, and ability to tackle in space. He’d be a perfect pick to rebuild the Lions defense.
8. Carolina Panthers: QB Justin Fields, Ohio State
Fields falling to pick number eight would be a dream come true for Panthers fans. He could sharpen his skills by sitting for a year and learning from veteran QB Teddy Bridgewater. Then once he’s ready, he’d come into an offense with weapons like Christian McCaffrey, D.J. Moore, and Robby Anderson.
