6 Best Philadelphia Eagles that only spent one year in town
Who knows what the Philadelphia Eagles were thinking here.
For one magical 18-game run, Michael Bennett made quite the splash in Philadelphia Eagles green with those tiny shoulder pads on. The long-time Seattle Seahawks star played for five years in the Pacific-Northwest. He was selected to three Pro Bowls and won a Super Bowl there.
While Bennett couldn’t replicate the same success in Philly, he did leave his mark. The defensive line was pretty loaded in 2018, which is why Bennett only started ten games, but he was a terror every time he found his way onto the field.
He finished with 41 total tackles (18 resulted in a loss of yardage), ten sacks, two forced fumbles, 33 QB hits, and over 68 pressures. Those numbers include the playoffs. As a matter of fact, his numbers made him one of the most productive edge rushers in the second half of the 2018 season.
The questions remain about why he was shipped off in the offseason. The answer, however, is simple. Why is any great player traded? Money!
Bennett wanted a pay raise, and was unhappy with his lack of playing time. Unfortunately, the Eagles couldn’t give him what he wanted as they had other players who they saw as more valuable and a first-round draft choice in Derek Barnett that they wanted to give more playing time to.
Bennett went on to play for two other teams the following season, the Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots, but it was clear that his most productive years had passed. He retired, at the close of the 2019 season.
