It’s sad that good news comes out of the NovaCare Complex less frequently than it used to, but if you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan, the month of March began with some relatively positive vibes. No Birds fan will complain about that after a rough January and February.

Thanks to Adam Caplan, we’ve learned that Philly has made the decision to tender linebacker Alex Singleton. The details can be found here. Thank Over the Cap for the assist when you have a moment.

Here’s the skinny if you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan.

We all knew that Singleton would be an ERFA (exclusive rights free agent) once the 2021 league year began. ERFAs are guys whose contracts are expiring but have been in the league for three seasons or less.

In those cases, players are only allowed to negotiate with their original team prior to the start of any NFL year’s beginning. If they aren’t tendered, as is the case with Singleton, they become unrestricted free agents and are then allowed to sign with any team of their choosing.

If you’re a Birds fan, you should all be of the mindset that this was a deal that Philadelphia had to get done. Tendering Singleton was absolutely the right move for this Eagles team. Now, Philadelphia wants to make sure they surround him with other quality linebackers. They’ll have a chance to do so in the 2021 offseason and NFL Draft.

Two other Philadelphia Eagles ERFAs seem to have been signed as well.

Did you notice that Over the Cap’s founder, Jason Fitzgerald, chimed in? He stated that he believes the Birds tendered all of their ERFAs during February’s final week. If that’s accurate, that means Greg Ward should be in the fold as well.

That too is great news. He would have also been an exclusive rights free agent heading into 2021 had that not been done, and he was one of Philly’s best wide receivers in both 2019 and in 2020.

Keep in mind the fact that none of this is official until contracts are signed when the NFL league year begins, but again, after quarterback controversies and the Carson Wentz drama, it’s nice to hear some good news coming out of the NovaCare Complex.
