“Philadelphia is a hard city to play in”. Now, there’s a statement that shouldn’t be news to any NFL fan. For those that self-identify as Philadelphia Eagles fans, it’s one of the first lessons that you probably learned when you inherited this team from your father and mother and made the decision that this was the squad you’d ride with.

If that describes you, it’s doubtful that you need to be introduced the Jason Peters. After going undrafted in 2004 (it’s still amazing that every NFL team messed that up), The Bodyguard began his career with the Buffalo Bills in 2004 after making the switch from college tight end to the offensive tackle position.

Here’s a quick history lesson if you’re not a Philadelphia Eagles fan.

Jason Peters earned a Pro Bowl nod in his third season and two as a member of the Bills. Philly acquired him on April 17th of 2009 after giving up their first and fourth-round picks in 2009 and a conditional sixth-round selection in 2010.

That was one of the best decisions this franchise ever made as Peters has earned seven more Pro Bowl nods, two First-team All-Pro nods, and two Second-team All-Pro nods as a member of the Birds. He’s a surefire Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee.

A Philadelphia Eagles legend makes dishes on the team’s quarterback situation.

On Thursday, March 4th, Peters made an appearance on the NFL Network’s Good Morning Football. He complimented Jalen Hurts, stating ” His leadership and swagger demands your eyes and ears”. In terms of what may have gone wrong with Carson Wentz, The Bodyguard said this.

"I was surprised. I wasn’t like super-surprised because, when they benched him and put Jalen in, things went left… I always encouraged him and told him ‘Keep working. Everything happens for a reason’. (If there was a team) that was going to pick him up, I knew it would be Frank Reich… Frank had him running smooth (when he was in Philadelphia)… Carson is a great player, and really, nothing went wrong on that. He was just in Philadelphia. It’s a hard city to play for. They’re critical of every play, every inch, every foot. You gotta bring it every year, or Philadelphia will eat you up."

The expectation is Carson Wentz should have some success. He joins a franchise that made the postseason without him a season ago, but he’s in the AFC South.

That means he has six games scheduled versus the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are expected to take Trevor Lawrence, the Tennesee Titans, who have Ryan Tannehill, and the Houston Texans who still have, at the time of this story being published, Deshaun Watson (even if they’re the only NFL franchise that’s more dysfunctional than the Eagles).

It won’t be an easy transition, but here’s one thing that we can all bank on. Philadelphia Eagles fans everywhere will be watching a lot of the Colts’ games in 2021.
