There’s an old saying that goes like this. “One good turn deserves another”. The City of Brotherly Love has a rich history in all four of the major professional sports, but let’s not make any mistake about this. Philly is a football town, much like Boston is a baseball town. For the Philadelphian, there will always be an affinity for all sports, but the love for Philadelphia Eagles football rules.
It isn’t much of a stretch to state the citizens of Philadelphia love football more than they love any other game. That’s why some recent news concerning the Phillies could be a reason for Birds fans in the Delaware Valley and everywhere else on Planet Earth to celebrate.
Might fans be allowed at Philadelphia Eagles games?
At the end of February, it was announced that Philadelphia’s Department of Public Health would allow a limited number of fans at home games as changes were made to the city’s COVID-19 restrictions.
In 2020, the Phillies played in front of cardboard cutouts at Citizens Bank Park as artificial cheers blared through the loudspeakers. Later on in the year, the Birds experimented with allowing fans to attend home games at Lincoln Finacial Field before ultimately deciding that asking them to stay home was the safest and most prudent option.
Fast forward, and things are returning to normal, though it’s been slow. As we rolled into March, we learned that about 8,800 people would be allowed to be present when the Phillies began play. Citizens Bank Park seats a little under 43,000.
Might we be able to gather that, a few months down the road, when the 2021 NFL season arrives, that Birds fans might also be able to hang out at Lincoln Financial Field when the Eagles prepare for the 2021 campaign?
So far, there’s been no change to the recent ordinance which could signal that we can get used to the idea of seeing some of the world’s most passionate fans back in the stands and cheering (or booing) for the likes of Jalen Hurts, Fletcher Cox, and company by the time we’re ready to see the stars of our favorite sport throw the pads back on again.
