The Philadelphia Eagles decision-makers have an excellent opportunity in front of them in the 2021 NFL Draft. While the Birds have a few holes that need to be addressed, the ones in the defensive backfield may be their biggest issues. One of the easiest ways that they could take a huge step in remedying that would be done by landing Northwestern cornerback Greg Newsome II in April. Could it happen?

Arguably one of the most underrated cornerbacks in the entire draft, the former Wildcat has all the tools to be a true game-changer for the Eagles. He has the rare combination of size (he’s six-foot-one and weighs 190-pounds) and the ability to cover. He also has a high football IQ that coaches at the next level search for in their prospects.

The Philadelphia Eagles need to find help for the backend of their defense.

Eagles executive vice president and general manager Howie Roseman has his hands full at the moment. The cap issues need to be worked out. Free agency is also looming, but even with his dance card full, he will need to keep an eye on the 2021 NFL Draft.

After restructuring Darius Slay’s contract, we can expect him to be around another year or two. That being the case, it would behoove the Birds’ front office to find a talented prospect to team with him. One who could learn from the star and potentially become the Philadelphia Eagles’ number one corner.

Here’s a take on Newsome that will interest Philadelphia Eagles fans.

We at ITI had an opportunity to speak with one of our scouting sources to ask him for a quick take on Greg Newsome II. While he did not want to be named, he did have this to say:

"I think this kid Newsome can be a star really. He has great feet on him, and he can move. I like that he plays with an aggressive nature but doesn’t play outside himself. He is tough during running plays. He never shy’s away from a runner. He has things that need to be worked on. I mean you could say it about every player, but he has the tools you want in your corners. He can be a guy that could be a star."

The Eagles’ brass needs to fix the back end of their defense. The draft could be the perfect place to do so. Adding Northwestern cornerback Greg Newsome II could be a great step towards healing some of this team’s defensive woes. He could be the perfect investment moving forward.
