4 Times Philadelphia Eagles fans were duped by Jeffrey Lurie or Howie

3. The QB factory isn’t what Philadelphia Eagles are told it is.

He says he regrets making the statement, but the words ‘Quarterback Factory’ in some ways, will always be a part of the Howie Roseman legacy and for both good and bad reasons.

In 2016, he traded up twice in the NFL Draft to land Carson Wentz. Philly had Sam Bradford, but as mentioned earlier, they traded him eight days before the season started in 2016 and gave 11 the keys to the franchise.

They signed Nick Foles as a backup in 2017. He won the Super Bowl and came within a few plays of taking Philly back to the NFC Championship Game a year later. That started a mini quarterback controversy, one that Foles lost. He’d be the guy to leave. The team built a shrine to him in the locker room and a statue immortalizing the Philly Special sits outside of Lincoln Finacial Field to this day.

Philly would eventually ink 11 to an extension, but they drafted Jalen Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The latter was a move that was despised at the time, but in hindsight, it could wind up being one of the better moves that the franchise has ever made.

Carson Wentz is gone. Thankfully, Philly had Hurts as some insurance, and now, at the time of this story being published, there appears to be no desire to build 11 a statue or a shrine in the locker room. Who knows? Maybe teammates did love Foles more? Maybe Wentz did have some deficiencies as a teammate? whatever the case, there didn’t seem to be the same level of grief when Philly and Wentz went their separate ways.

Hey, it doesn’t matter now, but let’s leave things like this. Fans will never agree on what Wentz means or has meant to the Eagles franchise, but as far as that quarterback factory goes, maybe it’s time that we all acknowledge the fact that there’s a strong possibility that Philly didn’t believe in Carson Wentz as much as they said they did.

Who knows? They may not even believe in Jalen Hurts, but he was definitely taken in Round 2 for quite a few more reasons than people have stated.
