The familiar faces are beginning to file out of the NovaCare Complex as more news comes on the third Monday of 2021’s third month. According to reports, The Philadelphia Eagles appear to be set to lose a special teams ace and safety. This time it’s Rudy Ford.

He signs a two-year deal with the AFC South’s Jacksonville Jaguars. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was first with the news. Sources have told him, that the deal is for two years and will pay him $2.4 million.

Here are a few nuggets if you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan.

Being that you’re a Birds fan, you probably haven’t paid much attention to what the Jacksonville Jaguars are doing, but they seem intent on putting a roster together, aren’t they? Meanwhile, in the City of Brotherly Love, their new special teams coordinator Michael Clay looks to pay for the recent sins of the guy he was hired to replace, Dave Fipp.

He’ll be looking to do so without one of the better special teams players the Eagles have had recently. Philly has been known to keep an extra safety around to pay dividends on punts and kickoff coverage. Think Chris Maragos. Ford was the guy that they envisioned sliding into the role once Maragos was gone, and he was effective. Unfortunately, his tenure in Philly ends after 18 games and an injury-filled run.

Here’s one last look at Ford’s Philadelphia Eagles career.

During his time with the Birds, Ford notched 21 total tackles, 16 of which were solo while playing 63 defensive snaps and another 351 on special teams during that span. Unfortunately, he missed a lot of time with injuries.

After being traded from the Arizona Cardinals to the Philadelphia Eagles on August 22nd of 2019 in exchange for defensive tackle Bruce Hector, Ford was placed on the team’s IR (injured reserve) a little over three months later on November 23rd thanks to an abdomen injury he sustained in practice.

In 2020, he missed several games as well. On October 8th, he was placed on injured reserve after it was learned that he suffered a hamstring injury in Week 4. He was activated and placed back on the roster on October 31st.

During his time with the Birds, Ford notched 21 total tackles, 16 of which were of the solo variety while playing 63 defensive snaps and another 351 on special teams during that span. Now, he’ll look to continue his NFL story with Urban Meyer and the Jags.
