3 Philadelphia Eagles backup QB options after Taylor, Brissett signings
Now, some Philadelphia Eagles fans might be able to get behind this one.
Ladies and gentlemen, one day we’ll all be old, and we’ll sit on the porch in the rocking chair and talk to the grandchildren about the time when the San Francisco 49ers drafted Alex Smith first-overall in 2005’s NFL Draft instead of taking Aaron Rodgers.
You all know the story well. Since that decision, Smith has found his way onto three Pro Bowl rosters (2013, 2016, and 2017). Aaron Rodgers has been to nine Pro Bowls (2009, 2011, 2012, 2014–2016, 2018–2020), is a three-time NFL Most Valuable Player Award winner (2011. 2014, and 2020), a Super Bowl-winning quarterback, and he’s a surefire first-ballot Hall of Famer.
No one will ever question Smith’s heart though. He’s the reigning NFL Comeback Player of the Year after undergoing more surgeries than any man, woman, or child should have to endure and returning to the playing field after almost losing his life and his leg in the process.
Just seeing him play in an NFL game in 2020 was a miracle. If you’re the Philadelphia Eagles, this is exactly the guy that you want in your locker room. He’s been a big brother and an influence to Patrick Mahomes. Most would be willing to bet that he can teach Jalen Hurts a thing or two as well. This is officially Philly’s best choice to become their backup quarterback if they explore free agency to do so.
