Well, we’re talking about the Philadelphia Eagles fan base, so let’s be honest. Whenever anything about this team is reported, 85 percent of the fan base knows about it 20 minutes later, but there was no way we all could kick off a new NFL year without mentioning this.
Marquise Goodwin‘s career in Philadelphia is over, and he never even played a game. We’ve never even seen him in an Eagles jersey, have we?
Here’s a quick trip down memory lane for Philadelphia Eagles fans.
ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates reported on March 16th that Goodwin reverted from Philly back to the San Francisco 49ers. This due to a clause in the trade made between the two teams last April.
If you’ll remember, Philly traded for Goodwin during the third day of 2020’s NFL Draft, but he opted out of the 2021 season due to COVID-19 concerns. He’s one of the game’s speedier players when healthy, but again, his time in Philly is now over.
Here’s some good news though. Philly gets a seventh-round draft choice out of the deal according to Matt Maiocco, who has covered the Niners for almost 25 years. The Birds also clear $4.28 million in cap space. They’re now cap-compliant as the new league year begins.
The Philadelphia Eagles now have 11 draft picks in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Philly now has 11 picks in the 2021 NFL Draft. They fall as follows:
Round 1 (6), Round 2 (37), Round 3 (picks 70 and 84), Round 5 (150 and 156), Round 6 (188, 223, and 224), and picks 233 and 239 in Round 7
Based on the fact that Philly can land another good wide receiver in the upcoming NFL Draft and Marquise Goodwin is a year older and has already had a spotty injury history, this was absolutely the right move for the Philadelphia Eagles.
It feels like the Super Bowl was five months ago, especially since there was no NFL Scouting Combine, but we’ve arrived at a new league year. Buckle up Birds fans. This should be fun.
