Philadelphia Eagles 7-round mock draft: Every fan’s dream comes true
By Smit Bajaj
The Philadelphia Eagles add another SEC defender in LB Jabril Cox.
Ever since Jim Schwartz became the defensive coordinator in Philadelphia, the Eagles have routinely disregarded the linebacker position. Schwartz loved to bring physical safeties into the box (such as Malcolm Jenkins) and so, it was very rare for the team to use three linebacker sets.
With Schwartz gone, the team finds itself with a severe linebacker deficiency. They also hired Johnathan Gannon who comes from a Colts defense that had All-Pro linebacker Darius Leonard roaming the middle of the field. The Eagles signed Eric Wilson and already have Alex Singleton, but they need more talent in the linebacker room.
Jabril Cox projects to be a three-down linebacker in large part due to his incredible coverage ability. It’s rare for a linebacker prospect to be this developed in defending the pass. He’s a rangy player who has above-average instincts for the game of football.
It may be wishful thinking to have Cox fall to the third round, but if he does slip this far, the Eagles need to sprint to the podium to hand in the slip. He’d be a perfect pass defending complement to Alex Singleoton’s run-stopping playstyle.
