Philadelphia Eagles could find post-draft DB help in K.J. Sails
When University of South Florida defensive back K.J. Sails went undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft, it left a few draft experts scratching their heads. He’s arguably one of the most versatile weapons and, at the same time, one of the under-the-radar players on the defensive side of the ball. He has the tools and football intelligence to be a steal for a team like the Philadelphia Eagles. Knowing that he’s available makes him even more interesting.
Despite his talent, Sails never heard his name called during draft weekend. Still, he’s capable of playing both safety spots, out on an island, or in the box to help against the opposing team’s running game. What’s probably most impressive is his ability as a returner. If you haven’t noticed, all of these are areas of need for the Eagles.
Here is a scouting quote Philadelphia Eagles fans may find interesting.
We at ITI had the opportunity to sit down with a scouting source and ask him his thoughts on Mr. Sails. While he declined to be named, he did have this to say:
I looked at a lot of his film, watched his play at North Carolina, and watched him work with USF. I felt like he had a great shot at being drafted, so when he wasn’t, it shocked me a bit. Sometimes teams just miss.
The guy can play, he is an outright football player. No questions. Just get him a helmet and let him go. It isn’t over for him and if a team is quick enough to land him, they could find gold in him. He can play in the NFL.
Adding Sails to the Philadelphia Eagles roster could be the perfect move.
General Manager Howie Roseman has done a pretty good job, rebuilding this roster, and defeating the cap monster. He isn’t done yet and needs to keep an eye out for as many upgrades as he can find. No matter the position, the Philadelphia Eagles need to find talent everywhere and on both sides of the ball.
K.J. Sails is a natural leader with raw speed, good cover skills, and the disciplined eyes that coaches look for in their players. He would be an excellent post-draft acquisition for a team in need of help for their passing defense. If the Eagles continue to add talent to this roster, especially for the secondary, this is one of the guys that they should consider. He could be a great investment.
