Philadelphia Eagles 3 most interesting, winnable non-divisional games
What is it about the Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions?
It doesn’t matter how good one team is or how bad the other is. It never seems to matter what the circumstances are or where they’re playing. The Detroit Lions are cursed. They have one playoff win in the Super Bowl era… One! They have one thing that they can lay their helmets on though.
For whatever reason, whenever these two teams meet, the Lions never want to lay down like they’re supposed to. The Philadelphia Eagles have dropped three straight to Detroit, and they’ve dropped four of the last five.
What’s worse is they’ve done it in almost every conceivable way that it can be done. They’ve been blown out on Thanksgiving. They’ve blown leads. They even dropped one in a home game that went to overtime. All of a sudden Philly can’t figure out, but they’ll need to in Week 8.
How does one put this? The Birds aren’t going to be favored in a lot of games, but this is one that they should win, and in the NFL, teams have to win the games that they’re supposed to win.
After 12 seasons, Matt Stafford is gone. Jared Goff takes over. Like the Eagles, the Lions have a new coaching regime, one that Duce Staley is a part of. This one’s snuggled between two battles versus AFC West competition. One is Philly’s first-ever game versus the Raiders in Las Vegas. The other is a home date versus the Los Angeles Chargers. Would it be crazy to call this one a trap game?
