Philadelphia Eagles: Examining all of those QB rumors we heard
By Ryan Loftus
Can the Philadelphia Eagles pull a retired quarterback back into the league?
While this one may seem like quite a stretch, the Eagles could be in need of a veteran starter to act as a bridge QB while Hurts takes a year to learn Sirianni’s new system, and there are few veteran QBs were better overall than Alex Smith.
Not only was he the Comeback Player of the Year after coming back from a horrific injury, but he was also thrust into a subpar Washington team in a subpar NFC East Division where he helped lead Washington to a division title.
Smith won five out of six starts (which accounted for five out of seven of the Football Team’s wins). Smith was on pace to throw for 3,363 yards passing, which would have led the NFC East in passing yards.
Alex Smith could provide for the Eagles what he provided for Washington this past year: enough wins for a playoff berth. While the Eagles are in rebuild mode, a young team could benefit with some more experience under their belt. Hurts could definitely benefit from learning under a quarterback as skilled as Smith.
