Philadelphia Eagles should do anything needed to land Deshaun Watson
Is Deshaun Watson better for this Philadelphia Eagles team than Jalen Hurts is?
There are two beliefs amongst Philadelphia Eagles fans. Half believe that second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts can become the franchise guy, and the other half is already prepared to turn the page.
It’s no secret that quarterback is the most important position on a football team, and if your team doesn’t have that guy, they more than likely won’t be competing come February. The best teams in the NFL know who their guy is. The Philadelphia Eagles do not.
In the six-year gap between Donovan McNabb and Carson Wentz, the Eagles went to the playoffs twice and got bounced in the Wildcard Round on both occasions. Between McNabb and Wentz’s combined sixteen seasons as the franchise quarterbacks in Philly, they combined for a total of eleven playoffs trips, fourteen wins, and a Super Bowl championship. The point being, when you have an elite franchise quarterback, you can consistently compete to win championships.
Enter Deshaun Watson. At the beginning of the offseason, the disgruntled Texans quarterback was very clear about wanting out of Houston, going as far as publicly saying he does not plan on suiting up for the Texans ever again. The Texans have stood pat and stated they don’t have any plans to trade Watson and that they want to fix the issues.
Fast forward to July 14th when Adam Schefter made an appearance on 97.5 the Fanatic where he linked Watson to the Eagles unprompted.
This started a lot of excitement and discussion amongst Eagles fans on social media. Debating on whether the Birds should trade for the Texans franchise quarterback, there are many reasons why fans and pundits think the Eagles should steer clear of him. Here are three reasons the Eagles SHOULD do whatever it takes to acquire Watson whenever he actually becomes available.
