All Winter and Spring, we were saying the same things. The top three wide receivers of the most recent NFL Draft were Jaylen Waddle, Ja’marr Chase, and DeVonta Smith. The hope (of most Philadelphia Eagles fans anyway) was that their beloved Birds could score one of these guys, especially seeing as how trading down meant they’d, more than likely, end up missing out on the Kyle Pitts sweepstakes.

There isn’t an Eagles fan on the planet that doesn’t know what happened on the first night of the most recent NFL Draft. Pitts landed with the Atlanta Falcons via the fourth-overall selection. Chase went to the Cincinnati Bengals one selection later at five. Waddle went to the Miami Dolphins at six.

Fast forward, and the DeVonta Smith hype train is currently stuck in neutral (for a little while anyway). Following an MCL sprain that he apparently suffered on the final Saturday of July, Smith was held out of Philly’s August 2nd practice session and will sit for a while as a precaution.

That’s okay though. Like Eagles fans, Vegas still seems to be in love with the most recent Heisman Trophy winner, and for good reason.

DeVonta Smith’s Rookie of the Year odds haven’t changed much.

As the first full week of August began, the updates on Smith’s progress were fast and furious. He’s week-to-week with that MCL sprain, but thanks in part to the knowledge that he should be available for the regular season, as BetSided’s Donnavan Smoot states, his chances of winning the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year Award haven’t changed much.

According to WynnBET, he and Ja’marr Chase are both tied with odds of +1300. Finishing ahead of both of them is Trevor Lawrence, Najee Harris, Justin Fields, Trey Lance, Kyle Pitts, Zach Wilson, and Mac Jones. Keep an eye on these guys as we move towards the regular season. Big things are in store for all of these guys. The 2021 NFL Draft class is going to be fun to watch.
