Philadelphia Eagles RB Jason Huntley is turning heads at training camp
Though the debate continues about whether or not Jalen Hurts will develop into the quarterback that the Philadelphia Eagles are looking for, it’s beginning to look more and more like QB1 will be able to hang his hat on something. They say a strong running game is a quarterback’s best friend (especially a quarterback that has only started four NFL games and has racked up a career 52-percent completion percentage in the process), and Philly’s tailbacks are impressing so far at camp.
Enter Jason Huntley. He seems to do something great on a daily basis.
The Philadelphia Eagles are really getting excited about Jason Huntley.
So much for that theory that some of us had, huh? Oh, don’t act like you didn’t say it now. be honest. We were all worried that Philly had employed this recent theory of acquiring running backs who were released by the Detroit Lions, and in all honesty, it’s easy to argue why we would have been.
Detroit is consistently one of the worst-performing teams in the NFL. If there are prospects who seemingly aren’t good enough to make their roster, why would anyone else be interested? It makes sense right?
Huntley and another former Lion, Kerryon Johnson, have both made their cases for roster spots. Sure, Huntley has gotten off to a slow start for the Philadelphia Eagles. Sure, much of what they both have done in practice has come with no pads on. You also can’t overlook the fact that, in his first year with the team, Huntley notched 19 yards on five carries and a single catch for no yards.
He could run his way into a roster spot though. He provides value on special teams as a returner. He has also had some very impressive runs including big gainers versus the third-team defense in each of the Philadelphia Eagles’ first three training camp practices. Huntley added two more nice jaunts on the August 2nd and August 3rd sessions.
Let’s make long stories short. Look at things this way. Again, we’re often talking about long-gainers minus pads versus guys who may not make the team and guys who aren’t looking to make tackles but keep an eye on Number 32 during Philly’s three preseason games versus some live bullets. You may find out that you’re liking what you’re seeing.
