General Manager Howie Roseman seems to have done an excellent job constructing the current Philadelphia Eagles roster. Coming off of one of the worse seasons in recent memory in 2020, the Birds were in need of a complete rebuild.

From top to bottom, it was simple to find all of the issues with the depth chart, and one seemed to stand out above the rest. The wide receiver position has been a thorn on the side of Roseman and Philly fans for a few years despite the fact this team has added talent to the position over the course of the last few NFL Drafts.

Every year, it seemed like the Philadelphia Eagles are in the conversation anytime a receiver hit the market. That led Eagles fans to lose their minds. Regardless of how you look at it, despite the fact that youth was added, something always seemed to be missing. Drafting DeVonta Smith was a great start. The sudden rise of Quez Watkins was a nice surprise, but the honest truth is this. Something is still missing.

The Philadelphia Eagles need to add a veteran receiver to this roster.

Since 2019, the Philadelphia Eagles front office has added a lot of talent: J.J. Arcega-Whiteside (2nd-round), Jalen Reagor (1st-round), John Hightower (4th-round), Quez Watkins (6th-round), and the most recent Heisman Trophy winner, DeVonta Smith.

Out of that bunch, only Watkins and Reagor have shown promise. Smith hasn’t played a down yet. Then, there’s player development. Some of the issues with this team lie in the fact that the coaches aren’t doing their jobs. Philly needs a veteran, someone that can stabilize the position by adding experience. That might be what is needed to help the development of these young prospects.

So, with that in mind, here’s a serious question. Would adding a true veteran to the roster help the development of the young guys? It would make sense to consider that as a possibility right?

DeVonta Smith has all the talent in the world, but without any leadership, we can expect a lot more of the same results in Philadelphia with this Eagles team. The future seems bright, but the addition of a veteran presence could be huge for Philly’s offense. We’ll have to wait and see if the front office is thinking the same thing.
