Philadelphia Eagles end preseason with a disappointing, inexcusable tie
The hometown kid, Joe Flacco, and all of the Philadelphia Eagles that played during the first half definitely won’t have to hold their head down after this one. What in the heck happened in the second half though?
After watching Philadelphia lay a goose egg on the scoreboard for six consecutive quarters during the second and third games of the preseason, a Joe Flacco-led Birds offense lit up the New York Jets and MetLife Stadium during the first two quarters of what wound up being a game that was a lot more entertaining than any of us could have imagined.
However, Birds fans, unfortunately, won’t get the result that they wanted. Nick Sirianni had his first win firmly in his grasp before the Jets stole this one from him in dramatic fashion.
Don’t you, for a second, allow yourselves to believe that this one didn’t sting a little. No one cares about the fact that this didn’t count. That was inexcusable.
Philadelphia Eagles fans shouldn’t be surprised by this one.
Seriously, what did you expect? You had to know an eight-point lead wasn’t safe. These are the Philadelphia Eagles we’re talking about.
Only Philly could jump out to a 21-10 halftime lead, extended their lead to a 31-23 margin with less than two minutes to go thanks to a hat trick by Michael Jacquet, and wind up with an even finish thanks to a hail-mary pass, and two-point conversion.
Jacquet’s strip, recovery, and dash to the end zone put Philly up by eight late, and that will remain as one of the highlights of the 2021 preseason, but you have to walk away from this one shaking your head, don’t you? This one ends in a tie. It doesn’t count towards the 2021 win-loss tally, but regardless of what the scoreboard says, this one feels like a loss.
