The hour is upon us, officially. The final day of August means we’re all discussing roster cuts. No one’s really expecting a ton of surprising moves by the Philadelphia Eagles. At least that’s what the vibe was as we navigated the days leading up to the NFL deadline. Perhaps we were wrong.

Philly announced two moves right around breakfast time on the East Coast. One wasn’t too terribly surprising. One was quite surprising.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelisssero, Philly’s elected to release both running back/kick-return ace Jason Huntley and veteran cornerback Craig James. Take a look.

Huntley’s release means the Birds move on from one of the better options that they had at kick returner. James’ subtraction is a surprise. Many had him making the roster.

Maybe we should expect a few more surprises from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Anyone who follows the Philadelphia Eagles closely can probably name 45 to 46 guys that we’re certain will make the 53-man roster. The debate comes when the discussion turns to those guys that fall in the area of those last seven guys.

Is Jordan Howard really going to make this team? Will the Birds keep five wide receivers or six. Is that final wideout going to be JJ Arcega-Whiteside or Travis Fulgham? Has either guy really proven that they need to be on this team?

Uh oh! That means John Hightower is off of this team, doesn’t it? Those are the types of debates that Philly’s leadership structure and coaches are having this morning.
