The Philadelphia Eagles have a bright future ahead of them.

Ever since the Philadelphia Eagles locked up Carson Wentz to a long-term deal just a few years ago (and maybe even before that), they’ve been hesitant to spend money on homegrown players. They’ve, instead, elected to go the route of handing the bigger deals to free agents that they add from other teams.

Jalen Mills, Rasul Douglas, Cre’Von LeBlanc, Alshon Jeffrey, Nelson Agholor, and Malik Jackson are all players that the Eagles have decided to let walk in free agency in favor of newcomers like Steven Nelson, Anthony Harris, and Javon Hargrave.

The Eagles also have and have had old players playing key roles and are now working to get younger at several positions. The drafting of Landon Dickerson and Milton Williams shows the Eagles are trying to find the next generation of stars to anchor their offensive and defensive line, as guys like Lane Johnson, Brandon Brooks, Jason Kelce, Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, and Ryan Kerrigan are all over 30.

Zach Ertz, Darius Slay, and Rodney McLeod are three more starters who are 30-plus. The aforementioned Harris and Nelson, two major acquisitions this offseason, are nearing their 30s.

While fans can hope our newcomers perform better than the players this team let go of, there are young players the Eagles can’t afford to let walk in free agency next season. They’re necessary pieces for the Eagles’ success, and letting them go would be a step back for the franchise.
