Although former first-round draft choice Derek Barnett is up for a new contract this offseason, Josh Sweat is clearly the better player and the guy the Eagles should hold on to if the franchise is forced to pick one over the other.
Josh Sweat is a better pass rusher than Derek Barnett, and the latter has been a disappointment more often than not. Let’s compare the stats from 2020’s regular season:

While Sweat and Barnett have similar stat lines, with the only notable difference being Sweat’s four forced fumbles, Barnett was a first-round pick and Sweat was a fourth-rounder. They shouldn’t be putting up similar stats.
When Fletcher Cox was asked about the former Florida State Seminole, he said Sweat was primed for a big year. It may be time to admit that Sweat is already everything that Barnett was supposed to be.
