Philadelphia Eagles GM Howie Roseman throws shade at Carson Wentz
One of the cool things about being a Philadelphia Eagles fan is there’s never a shortage of debatable topics. Some fans think Jalen Hurts will be fine. Some don’t. Some fans love Jordan Howard. Others think he’s washed up.
Then, there are guys like Eagles general manager/executive vice president Howie Roseman and Angelo Cataldi, the long-time host of the Morning Show on Philly’s 94 WIP-FM radio. If you’re a Birds fan, you’re familiar with both names, and like everything else related to this team, there are varying opinions about how they’re viewed.
Wait did the Philadelphia Eagles GM just throw shade at his former quarterback.
Occasionally, whether you’re a fan of either guy or not, Roseman and Cataldi’s paths cross when Howie calls into Angelo’s highly popular radio show, as he did on this past Wednesday. Roseman doesn’t speak to the media often, but when he does we normally get something that we all can talk about for a few days (quarterback factories and ‘Can he run? Is he healthy? Does he love to play?’ for instance).
Wednesday morning’s interview was no exception to that rule as he spoke with Cataldi on various topics, including his umpteenth explanation about taking a project quarterback with a second-round pick after inking his then-starter, Carson Wentz, to a multi-year, high dollar extension. Take a look at this one.
"We loved Carson, but we have played four playoff games, and we have needed our backup quarterback in all of them. It’s too important of a position to not have that. Just thinking about where we were in the moment, I think it was the right thing to do. It was a hard decision but the right thing to do."
If you’re like most Birds fans, you got stuck on that first line. “We loved Carson, but we have played four playoff games, and we have needed our backup quarterback in all of them”. Ouch!
Okay, be honest. Are we digging too deep here? Maybe we are! We could be overreacting. Maybe he didn’t mean anything by it.
Then again, why are other trusted Eagles voices joining the same petty party that we’re throwing? Take a look at this one from former Eagle and NBC Sports Philadelphia/Eagles Pregame and Postgame Live analyst Seth Joyner.
Yep, we were cool with letting all of this ride until Seth joined the party. Don’t tell us that Howie didn’t mean anything by what he said.
Let’s make long stories short. Though some of you like to dismiss Howie as being a ‘moron’ because he hands out bad deals, makes bad draft choices, and at times, decides against signing free agents that you guys want, this guy is anything but a ‘moron’. He’s one of the smarter NFL GMs in the game.
With that being said, someone as smart as he is would know better than to make certain statements unless he wanted them to be heard. Let’s be honest, Howie threw some shade, and good for him. He deserves that.
He’s had a brilliant offseason. He’s done some really beneficial things, and the craziest thing might be this. That second-round draft choice, the one that he wagered on a quarterback when the Philadelphia Eagles seemingly didn’t need one might wind
